New face at EGSF

Ulla Balletta of Leighton Buzzard is the newest member of the Equine Grass Sickness Fund following the retirement of long standing committee member Wanda Dodd. Ulla lost her horse William to the acute form of EGS in 2011, and the shock of losing him to a disease she had never even heard of prompted Ulla to start an awareness raising campaign. She set up a Facebook group to highlight the disease and support horse owners who are unlucky enough to experience it first hand, which now has over 4000 members, and in the process has raised over £2500 to help fund grass sickness research. Kate Thomson, EGSF Administrator said ‘We are delighted that Ulla has agreed to join the Committee. The EGSF consists of veterinary specialists in EGS and lay people who are passionate about finding a way of preventing this deadly disease. Ulla has played a very valuable role over the past few years and has been very supportive of our work and we think she will be a tremendous asset in helping us advance our cause.’

EGSF are very sad to see Wanda retire, as she has been a very long standing and hard working member of the committee alongside her numerous other commitments. We are very pleased that Wanda will continue to help us in a non official capacity in the future, so you are likely to see her friendly face on our stand next year. All of us at EGSF wish Wanda all the very best in her retirement, and we know she will enjoy spending more time with her grand children and horses.
