Vaccine Field Trial for the Control of Equine Grass Sickness

In October 2012 a historic moment was reached with the launch of a pilot vaccine trial in Scotland. The Trial was led by the AHT in conjunction with the veterinary schools of Edinburgh and Liverpool Universities. Following the successful conclusion of the pilot trial the AHT are now preparing to launch a full nationwide trial to fully test the hypothesis that EGS is caused by a toxico infection by Clostridium botulinum Type C. Owners of horses on premises with a known history of grass sickness who would like to participate in the trial are invited to register their interest by emailing info@grasssickness.org.uk. The trial is expected to start in 2014.

The BHS has recently joined forces with the AHT and EGSF and we are all currently working hard to raise the funds necessary for the trial to go ahead. There are lots of ways you can help:
